Life regained, life continues – the story of a lady
Mrs Bijoya Pal is a young lady from a remote village of Bankura. She is married to a young man who earns by driving someone’s car. She developed gradual dimness of vision in both eyes due to progressive cloudiness of cornea in both eyes. The remedy suggested by the doctor was cornea transplantation but affordability was a big challenge as her family income was too low. Visiting even a doctor who could offer the treatment was a big challenge for her.
Earlier her cousin was operated successfully at Vivekananda Mission Ashram Netra Niramay Niketan , Kolkata for the same eye disease that runs in their family. This motivated her to travel a long distance and visit the treating doctor. Here came the kind support from the Inner Wheel Club of Siliguri Uttorayon. Cornea transplantation surgery was done in her left eye in the month of January,2022.
Now she’s a changed lady who enjoys family life with her husband. She needs graft in other eye too later.
Restoring sight in the eyes of women gives the feeling of painting the eyes of the goddess.
Cornea replacement surgery is very unique; it carries a great philosophical value that says, “Life never ends.” A very small piece of an organ collected from a person who has ended his or her worldly life can raise the hope of life in another human being. Changing the life of a lady is again very special as it adds life to the entire family.
