To commemorate World Environment Day on June 5, 2024, Innerwheel Club Mitra, Tinsukia undertook a meaningful initiative aimed at enhancing the greenery of the community. The project, titled “Planting Trees on World Environment Day,” involved the planting of 50 trees, specifically neem and guava trees, across three local schools. This initiative was a step towards promoting environmental awareness and sustainability among students and the broader community.

On the morning of June 5, 2024, members of Innerwheel Club Mitra gathered to kick off the tree planting project. The event was marked by a ceremonial planting of the first tree at St.Stephen’s High School, followed by similar activities at Buds Public School and Bengali Girls HS School.

The chosen trees, neem and guava, were selected for their environmental benefits. Neem
trees are known for their air-purifying properties, while guava trees provide fruit and
contribute to biodiversity. Club members, along with enthusiastic participation from
students and school staff, planted the trees. Each tree was carefully planted with the
necessary support to ensure healthy growth. To complement the tree planting, brief
educational sessions were conducted at each school. These sessions highlighted the
importance of trees in the ecosystem, their role in combating climate change, and the need for ongoing care and maintenance of the newly planted trees. The tree planting project by the Innerwheel Club Mitra on World Environment Day was a significant step towards fostering environmental stewardship within the community. By involving students and school staff, the project not only contributed to the greening of school environments but also instilled a sense of responsibility towards nature among the younger generation. The event was successful in achieving its objectives, with 50 trees planted across three schools, marking a meaningful celebration of World Environment Day. The club plans to monitor the growth of these trees and continue similar initiatives in the future to further promote environmental sustainability.
