In accordance with the Swachch Bharat Abhiyaan initiated by the Government of India and to discourage spitting on streets, the Innerwheel Club of Shillong, jointly with the Innerwheel Club of Pine City, Shillong, invited 100+ students from various institutions of the city to participate in a silent Rally, from the Shillong Club to Police Bazaar point, carrying slogans with messages
against street-spitting. The Rally, with the message: *NO IFS, NO BUTS, SPIT-FREE SHILLONG IS A MUST* , was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner of Shillong, Smt Rosette Kurbah, who enthusiastically participated in the Rally and addressed the public at Police Bazaar point, conveying the message of keeping Shillong clean and healthy by making it Spit- free. Students from B.K.Bajoria School emphasized on this message with a dance performance, while students from Laban Bengali Girls’ School reiterated the same with a skit enactment. The slogans made by the students were a part of the slogan -making competition, and the three best slogans were acknowledged and awarded.The Innerwheel Club also set up *SPIT-BINS* at various public points of the city, encouraging the public to use them, and these were appreciated and inaugurated by the DC, Smt Kurbah. The Spit-bins were beautifully made out of old paint drums with the club name and logo and a catchy message. This initiative, taken by the Innerwheel Club, is a step towards city welfare and will ensure cleanliness in the city. The entire Project was widely covered by local media and was also flashed live on Instagram.
