Know Your DC – 2023-24

Geeta Sarin hails from Inner Wheel Club of Shillong. A stalwart in District 324. She is currently the Centenary District Chairman 2023-24 within International Inner Wheel with 37 Clubs of North East.

A Delhite by birth, she spent her childhood and teens in Amritsar and later Chandigarh. A Meritorious student all throughout. She topped her College and was awarded the Best All Round Student Award. She topped the University for Geography Honours and was awarded a Gold Medal and Scholarship. She did her Post Graduation from Punjab University Chandigarh in Geography. Topped the University and was awarded a Gold Medal. Thereafter she persued M. Phil in Urban Geography from NEHU and topped the University will all ‘O’ Levels. She got the prestigious UGC Scholarship. Her Thesis “Urban Poverty and Status of Women in Shillong” got published.

She is happily married to Rotarian Deepak Sarin and blessed with two lovely daughters Saachi and Saasha. Her Father the First Textile Commissioner of India floated a Family Trust to help the education and living of poor children which is still being run. His Ideology of serving Society is the guiding force in her life.

TEACHING & MANAGERIAL EXPERIENCE:

She have taught students from all streams at various levels, namely High School, Junior College, Senior College and Management Students.

  • Academic Counsellor for Environment Awareness (AHE) and BDP Programmes at Indira Gandhi National Open University for two years.
  • Lecturer of Commercial Geography in Shillong Junior College for 2 years (1999 to 2001).
  • Lecturer for Man & Environment at St. Peters College for one year 2001-2002.
  • Lecturer in the Department of Management in Shillong Engineering and Management College for teaching Organizational Behavior to B.B.A students for 2 years 2002-2004.
  • Lecturer in the Department of Management in Shillong Engineering and Management College for teaching Man & Environment to final year BBA Honours students 2004-2005.
  • Taught Environmental Studies and Geography to Classes X & XII in Scottish High International School in Gurgaon for One year.
  • Worked as Senior Coordinator in Shri Ram Group in Shri Ram Aravalli Branch for Environmental Studies and Geography for Class X – XII Students.
  • Worked as Regional Director, Meghalaya for Roko Cancer Charitable Trust, a London Based NGO in collaboration with The Health Ministry for 06 years Organising free Cancer Awareness & Detection camps for the poor in Rural Areas. Set up offices in Civil Hospital Shillong & Tura and successfully finished the project.

Her association with Inner Wheel dates back to 1994 and she has served all the posts in IWC Shillong Club diligently. As the Silver Jubilee President of IWC Shillong she organised the Silver Jubilee Conference in Shillong for 120 delegates and won the Silver Jubilee Best President and Silver Jubilee Best Club Award. It was first time in the history of the Inner Wheel Club Shillong to bag 22 awards since its inception for 35 years.

Thereafter a successful tenure in the District 324, began in 2017 and she has served her duties as District ISO, District Editor, District Treasurer, District Secretary and District Vice Chairman to the best of her capabilities. She has actively participated in a number of Inter District and District Level Event like Triennial Conference in Pune and Kolkata. District Conference and assemblies at Shantiniketan/ Gangtok and Siliguri and Darjeeling. East Zone Meet at Guwahati. North Zone meet at Amritsar and Lucknow, Teach Programme and International Conference at Jaipur virtually.

She is a dedicated Social Worker. Her belief is Great Acts are made of small deeds. A Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. She is on the panel of several societies namely; Advisor to the AIDS Society, Director of Cancer Hub Foundation. One of the Advisors in Shubham a Skill Development Centre for the Poor, Lifetime member of Arya Samaj and Geographical Society, General Secretary of Bharat Tibet Sehyog Manch, General Secretary of SPIC Macay an Organisation Promoting Art & Culture. Meghalaya Incharge of Poshan Abhiyan and Adarsh Aanganwadi Programme. Also General Secretary of Meghalaya State BJP Party and Organising Secretary of Punjabi Sabha.

She received Appreciation for all her social work and was Awarded by Rotary International for Completing 09 Happy Schools and Meritorious services rendered for Education of the Girl Child. A Special Citation awarded to her for the Cancer Awareness Programme implemented in the Meghalaya State. She contributed in the field of Women Empowerment as Organising Secretary of Matri Shakti. As President of One Point Schools and “Adopt to Educate” Programme in Vidya Bharti. She has done significant work to sponsor Education of Poor Children and check drop outs. She was also awarded the Nation Builder Award and Prafulla Dhanukar Art Foundation Award for outstanding Work done in promotion of Art & Culture in the Meghalaya State. Currently she is the Coordinator of “Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao” Programme and the Meghalaya Convenor of G-20 Summit happening for the first time in India.

A Dreamer A Thinker Her passions are Travelling making new friends and Social Service. Her Mantra in Life is “Live And Let Live”. Dream Big Aim High & Work hard tenuously to conquer new challenges. Her philosophy is “Be Ever Willing to Lead the Change as Vision without Action is merely an Illusion”. The greatest Glory in Living lies not in never falling but in rising every time we fall.
